X-Ray Services are a type of medical imaging that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. X-rays work by using electromagnetic radiation to produce images of the inside of the body. While they're mainly used to look at the bones and joints, they're sometimes used to detect problems affecting soft tissue, such as internal organs.

Depending on the reason for your visit to our facility, we will perform one or several x-ray views.

X-ray services are used to diagnose a number of health conditions, such as:

  1. Bone fractures and other skeletal problems

  2. Airway obstructions and other respiratory problems

  3. Abdominal problems, such as constipation or bowel obstructions

How is an X-ray performed?

X-rays can be done either as an outpatient basis, or as an inpatient care.

Most facilities have similar specific protocols that they must follow before and during an X-ray procedure. They would be as follows:

  1. The patient will be asked to remove any clothing or jewelry which might interfere with the exposure of the body area to be examined. The patient will be given a gown to wear if clothing must be removed.

  2. The patient is positioned on an X-ray table that carefully positions the part of the body that is to be X-rayed--between the X-ray machine and a cassette containing the X-ray film or specialized image plate. Some examinations may be performed with the patient in a sitting or standing position.

  3. The X-ray beam will be aimed at the area to be imaged. Body parts not being imaged may be covered with a lead apron (shield) to avoid exposure to the X-rays.

  4. The patient must be very still or the image will be blurred.

  5. The technologist will step behind a protective window and the image is taken.

  6. Depending on the body part under study, various X-rays may be taken at different angles, such as the front and side view during a chest X-ray.

What to Expect Before your X-Ray?

An X-Ray is one of the most common types of medical imaging that doctors use to diagnose different conditions.

Some exams are completed standing while other are done laying down, the x-ray table is cold and hard, and we will do our best to accommodate you in case of exam positioning is uncomfortable.

It’s also important not to wear any metal items such as jewelry or metal zippers on clothing because they can interfere with the imaging exam, if necessary you will be asked to change into a gown in order to provide you with the best imaging quality.

If you have any metal implants such as artificial joints, pacemakers, or surgical screws, tell your technologist about them before your exam.
